Tomihiro Kono

河野富広

Tomihiro is a hair artist hailing from Ehime Prefecture, Japan, whose work ranges from hair styling, head prop design, to wig making. He started his career as a hairdresser 20 years ago. After having trained in hair cutting techniques as a hairdresser for about 10 years in Japan, he moved to London in 2007. There he started working as a session hair stylist, and began making head props, seeking for his distinctive style, and also to blur the boundary between hair styling & head wear designs. His aim was to widen the potential of a sigle hair stylist’s work.

From 2013 to 2016 when he moved to New York, he was in charge of hair and head prop direction for Junya Watanabe Comme des Garcons’ Paris Collection show. Since around 2016, he has been focusing on wig making while expanding his range of expression of hair, exhibiting wigs at Weereld museum in the Netherlands, and producing custom-made wig for artists. In parallel with the artist’s activities, he will be exhibiting, projecting, and planning pop-up events as a director of the creative platform konomad he launched. In February 2023, konomad’s fourth book, fancy creatures was released.
